Sirubari Village Homestay

The first and still the best.

We first visited Sirubari, a Gurung village in Syangja district, in 1996. We had been asked to assess the potential of this village to become a model for the new concept of "Village Tourism"

Over the next few years we worked with the village community, developing infrastructure, training service providers and introducing packages for visiting tourists. Our efforts, along with those of the community, culminated in 2001 with the recognition of our work in the form of the PATA gold award for tourism development.

Sirubari has now become recognised as the model for all subsequent village tourism projects, many of which we also assisted with in their developmant stages.

This week I went again to Sirubari after a break of some eight years. What I found was a community still enthusiastic about hosting guests in their traditional homes. The welcome was so warm and enthusiastic and my friends and I were immediately made to feel at home in this very special part of Nepal. There was a group of Nepali visitors also in the village at the time and the community arranged one of their spectacular culture programmes that went late into the night. All too soon we had to return to Pokhara and the farewell was equally as warm and, for me, emotional, as the welcome.

We can arrange a visit to Sirubari as part of your stay in Nepal. Most people choose the two night package that includes a number of activities in and around the village.

You will have an experience like no other.
